Author, change maker and occasional cowboy, Jeff Hayzlett, encourages us to tackle change with gusto in his new book: Running the Gauntlet: Lead, Drive Change, and Grow Profits.
Running the gauntlet is a metaphor based on an old native American Indian practice of giving a captured trapper a chance to live. But first, they would need to pass through a corridor of tribesmen armed with sticks, knives and stones. If you made it through, you had permission to live as a free man.
Being a corporate change maker is akin to running the gauntlet, says Hayzlett in his recent interview for The Growth Faculty book club. “I’ve had sticks, the knives, the stones being hurled at me many, many times, and sometimes a few kicks from occasional executives as well.”
